How UAE public holidays work

Questions people ask

When is the next public holiday in the UAE?

Eid Al Etihad (National Day) on 2 and 3 December 2026. Take Friday 4 December off and you get five days in a row, Wednesday to Sunday.

When is Eid Al Fitr 2027 in the UAE?

Expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027, with the holiday running to Thursday 11 March, based on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The exact day depends on the moon sighting, announced the evening before.

Do private sector employees get the same holidays as government staff?

Yes. Since 2019 the UAE has one list of public holidays for the public and private sectors, now set by Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024. The Cabinet can move a holiday (other than the Eids) to the start or end of the week, so watch for announcements.

What happens if I work on a public holiday?

Under the Labour Law your employer must give you another day off, or pay you your wage for that day plus at least 50% of your basic wage.
